Episode 16: A Rare Chance We Cannot Ignore
By Dr. Doma
Delegates, every so often, a moment comes in politics when the right person and the right opportunity meet.
Sierra Leone is facing such a moment right now and that person is Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr.
Born in Freetown in 1968, she built her education at Fourah Bay College and the London School of Economics and went on to have a successful career in finance and public service in the UK.
She could have stayed abroad but instead, she chose the harder path to return home and serve her country.
Her record speaks loudly .
●In 2018, as a mayoral candidate, she won more votes in Freetown than even the eventual presidential winner.
●She has led initiatives in health, environment and urban development, including Ebola relief and large-scale tree planting projects.
●She has connected Sierra Leone to global networks and funding opportunities.
Beyond achievements, her character stands out. Yvonne has faced criticism, intimidation and political pressure, yet she has remained loyal to her country and committed to her work.
That kind of resilience is rare in our politics.
This is why her candidacy would not just be another name on the ballot.
It would send a signal that Sierra Leone is ready to value competence, integrity and vision over recycled slogans and old divisions.
Delegates, this is not just about your APC.
It is about Sierra Leone.
If the party truly wants to inspire hope and win convincingly in 2028, it must consider the candidate who can appeal to the wider public not just to the base.
Moments like this don’t come often.
When someone with ability, courage and proven results steps forward in our politics we should not look away.
Delegates, history will remember the choice you make.
