FREETOWN – Ibrahim Kamara, a 21-year-old man, has been remanded in custody after appearing before Magistrate Santigie Bangura at Pademba Road Court No. 2. He stands accused of breaking into the office of Defence for Children International (DCI) at No. 4 Old Railway Line, Tengbeh Town, on July 5, 2024, and allegedly stealing NLe 38,250 from the organization.
Court documents reveal that Kamara entered the office with the intent to commit theft. The stolen amount also included NLe 1,000 belonging to a staff member.
On Wednesday, Police Prosecutor Sergeant 8811 Florence M. Wilson presented Hassanatu Mansaray, a Program Officer at DCI, as a witness. Mansaray testified that she was at home when she received a call from the Finance Manager regarding the break-in. Upon arriving at the office, she discovered the bathroom door broken, the office in disarray, and footprints in the hallway. She later checked her cupboard and confirmed that money was missing. The incident was reported to the Congo Cross Police Station.
Kamara, who appeared in court without legal representation, did not respond to the charges or question the witness. The court denied him bail, citing the seriousness of the offense and the absence of anyone to take responsibility for him.
He will remain at the Male Correctional Centre in Freetown until the case resumes.
