In a significant move towards enhancing rehabilitation and self-sufficiency within the correctional system, government officials conducted a needs assessment at various correctional centers aimed at launching a large-scale agricultural initiative. This project aligns with the government’s Feed Salone agenda and seeks to improve both the nutritional needs of inmates and the overall functioning of Correctional Services.
The high-level delegation, which included Minister of Internal Affairs AIG (Rtd.) Morie Lengor Esq., Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Security Dr. Henry Kpaka, Director General of the Sierra Leone Correctional Service Mr. Joseph J. Senesie, and Resident Minister of the North East Hon. Ibrahim Jalloh, visited Rolako and Mafanta Correctional Centres located in Magburaka, Tonkolili District.
During their visit, officials underscored the initiative’s long-term vision: to enable correctional facilities to produce enough food to meet the inmates’ nutritional requirements. This effort is expected to decrease government expenditures while fostering greater self-reliance within the correctional framework.
The delegation’s efforts reflect the government’s dedication to transforming correctional facilities into productive institutions that not only support inmate rehabilitation but also contribute to broader national development goals.
