The Statistician General of Statistics Sierra Leone (Stats SL), Andrew Bob Johnny, has officially begun a new term in office with a pledge to deliver a more impactful and rewarding era for staff, saying, “I will double your smiles.”
Speaking at Stats SL headquarters in Freetown, Mr. Johnny announced that his reappointment followed endorsement by President Julius Maada Bio. He stated that his previous tenure was formally approved by the President on March 31, 2026, and thanked the President for renewing his mandate.
In an address marked by optimism, Mr. Johnny said the institution has built a solid foundation and that the next phase will bring deeper transformation. He assured staff that his renewed commitment will go beyond institutional performance to also improve the working environment and the well-being of every staff member.
He emphasized that his vision for the new tenure will focus on enhancing data quality, embracing innovation, and fostering a more supportive and motivating workplace. Mr. Johnny called on staff to remain dedicated, collaborative, and resilient as the agency prepares to deliver a credible, inclusive, and people-centred census.
Staff members welcomed the announcement, expressing confidence in Mr. Johnny’s leadership and praising his record of advancing both the organization’s mission and staff welfare.
Analysts noted that the reappointment reinforces continuity and stability at the helm of Sierra Leone’s primary data agency—an essential institution for reliable socio-economic planning and international reporting obligations.
