The Sierra Leone government has launched a nationwide campaign to simplify the 2026 national budget, aiming to increase public understanding of state spending. The initiative, announced by Joseph Munda Bindi, Chairman of the National Council for Civic Education and Democracy (NaCCED), will provide citizens with a clear and accessible breakdown of budget allocations.
The campaign, conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and supported by Oxford, seeks to promote transparency and accountability in governance. Bindi emphasized that citizens have a right to understand how public funds are spent, and the simplified budget is designed to facilitate informed participation in national development.
The initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance civic engagement and ensure that citizens are informed about government spending priorities. The simplified budget is expected to be a valuable tool for citizens, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders to track government expenditures and hold leaders accountable.
