WASSCE 2025: Only 60 Schools Meet Continuous Assessment Score Upload Deadline

In a shocking revelation, the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) disclosed that only 60 out of 784 schools have successfully uploaded their students’ Continuous Assessment Scores (CASS) onto the West African Examination Council (WAEC) portal. With the September 30, 2024 deadline fast approaching, concerns are mounting.

At a press briefing, Deputy Minister of Education, Ms. Mamusu Massaquoi, sounded the alarm. “The slow pace of uploads is unacceptable,” she stressed. “Submitting ‘CASS One’ is crucial for students’ eligibility to sit for the 2025 WASSCE.”

Ms. Massaquoi emphasized that principals must upload only vetted and ministry-approved candidates, generate the CASS report, and submit it for verification. Failure to comply would result in severe penalties, including removal of candidates’ records from WAEC’s system.

Foday Kuyateh, Western Regional Secretary for the Sierra Leone Teachers Union (SLTU), echoed the concerns. “We urge the ministry to consider an extension to prevent any school or student from being left behind,” he appealed.

Hon. Alpha Fode Madie Jabbie, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Basic and Senior Secondary Education, also weighed in. “Prompt submission of Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results for newly admitted SSS1 students is vital to avoid future WASSCE preparation issues,” he advised.

As the deadline looms, school administrators are scrambling to meet the requirements. “We’re working tirelessly to upload our students’ scores,” said Abdulai Kamara, Principal of Freetown’s Government Secondary School. “We can’t afford to miss this deadline.”

The MBSSE’s warning serves as a stark reminder of the importance of meeting deadlines and complying with regulations. For the 2025 WASSCE candidates, the stakes are high. Will all schools make the deadline, or will some students be left behind?
