President Bio and Jeffrey Sachs Discuss Sustainable Development

President Julius Maada Bio met with world-renowned economist and sustainable development advocate, Jeffrey D. Sachs, to bolster Sierra Leone’s education sector. Their productive discussion centered around Sierra Leone’s progress in increasing access to education and exploring opportunities for international partnerships.

Sachs, known for his innovative approaches to addressing complex global challenges, brings expertise in poverty reduction, climate change, international debt crises, and public health emergencies. His involvement is expected to play a pivotal role in helping Sierra Leone build sustainable solutions for its education sector and beyond.

President Bio expressed optimism about the collaboration, highlighting Sierra Leone’s achievements in education and Sachs’ commitment to supporting the country. “We recognized the great progress Sierra Leone has made in increasing access to education,” President Bio stated. Sachs will help Sierra Leone leverage global relationships and harness partnerships with multilateral institutions.

This partnership marks a significant gain for Sierra Leone, with President Bio noting, “This is a solid gain for Sierra Leone, and we look forward to deepening this relationship.” As a professor at Columbia University and director of the Center for Sustainable Development, Sachs’ bold and effective strategies will further bolster Sierra Leone’s efforts in improving education access and overall development.
