The Teaching Service Commission (TSC) has concluded its Regional Assessment for the 2024 Presidential National Best Teacher Awards in the Southern Region. This prestigious competition recognizes exceptional educators who have demonstrated outstanding dedication and commitment to shaping the minds of Sierra Leone’s future leaders.

Eight talented teachers, four from primary and four from secondary schools, represented Bo, Bonthe, Moyamba, and Pujehun districts. After a rigorous evaluation process, Emmanuel Maada Moriba from Bo District’s B.T.C Experimental Primary School emerged victorious in the primary school category. Sulaiman A. Sengeh, principal of Centennial Secondary School in Bonthe District, secured the top spot in the secondary school category.

An impartial panel comprising representatives from the Anti-Corruption Commission, Audit Service Sierra Leone, local councils, and the Sierra Leone Teachers Union oversaw the assessment. This ensured a fair and unbiased selection of the region’s finest educators.

Moriba expressed gratitude for the opportunity to represent the region, while Sengeh viewed his achievement as a significant milestone in his 35-year teaching career.

Madam Marian Abu, Director of Teacher Management at TSC, emphasized the awards’ importance, initiated by President Bio in 2018. “These awards recognize the tireless efforts of our dedicated teachers who strive to provide quality education despite challenges.”

The National Competition is slated for October 5, coinciding with World Teachers’ Day, in Bo City. Past winners have received financial incentives and land, with this year’s edition promising even greater rewards.

The Presidential Best Teacher Awards aim to promote excellence among educators, motivating them to continue delivering exceptional education. As Sierra Leone celebrates its top teachers, the nation moves closer to achieving its goal of providing quality education for all.
