The Sierra Leone Police Hospital commissioned its first modern blood bank and dental clinic Thursday, marking a major expansion of medical services for officers and their families nationwide.
The new units are designed to improve blood supply management and oral healthcare for police personnel and dependants, officials said at the opening ceremony.
Deputy Inspector General Sahr Yomba Senesi, speaking on behalf of the Inspector General, called the launch a “historic milestone” for the force. He said the investment reflects leadership’s commitment to officer welfare and operational readiness, noting that strong dental health directly supports personnel efficiency.
Permanent Secretary Edwards Ngaujah, representing the Ministry of Internal Affairs, praised the initiative as consistent with the ministry’s plan to build a professional, service-oriented police institution. He commended the SLP for prioritizing health and wellbeing.
Director of Medical Service, AIG Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim Jalloh, said the project had been in development for several years as part of a broader transformation of the Police Hospital. The facility, he noted, has grown from a small medical inspection room into a fully equipped hospital with specialized units.
The event drew senior police commanders including Regional Commanders AIG Sylvester M. N. Koroma and AIG John Martin Senesie, Director of Operations ACP Allieu Turay, and representatives from the Dental Association, Ministry of Internal Affairs, and civil society organizations.
Proceedings closed with a ribbon-cutting, the unveiling of a commemorative plaque, and a tour of the new blood bank and dental clinic.
