10 Years of Pain: Woman Alleges Surgical Items Left Inside Her After C-Section in Magburaka

A resident of Yams Farm has accused medical staff at the Magburaka Government Hospital of leaving surgical instruments in her abdomen during a cesarean section, an incident she says has caused her a decade of health complications.

Haja Gbla said she travelled from Freetown to Magburaka to give birth and underwent a C-section performed by intern doctors. She alleged that equipment was inadvertently left inside her body during the procedure.

According to Gbla, the mistake was discovered when doctors preparing for a follow-up operation could not account for the missing instruments. A second surgery was then carried out to remove the items.

She further alleged that complications followed the corrective surgery, claiming her wound was not properly closed. This, she said, has left her with persistent health problems for the past 10 years.

“It has been 10 years now and I am still sick,” Gbla said. Citing financial constraints and the need for continuous care, she said she relocated to Magburaka to stay close to medical facilities.

Gbla is now appealing to government authorities, health institutions, and the public for urgent assistance to access specialized medical treatment.

Hospital authorities were not immediately available for comment at the time of filing this report.
