Sierra Leone has welcomed a delegation from Germany’s TERRA TECH Förderprojekte e.V. following the conclusion of a comprehensive monitoring mission across Kailahun, Kenema, Bo, and Pujehun districts to assess the impact of development projects funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, BMZ.

The mission, which took place from July 6 to 10, 2026, focused on evaluating the implementation of the #FEED, #P7373, #WAREED, and #Anti-Drug initiatives. During the visit, the delegation conducted site inspections, reviewed infrastructure, and held consultations with community leaders, teachers, women’s groups, farmers, youth, and local authorities.

The team observed that climate-resilient farming techniques are being adopted by farmers in the targeted communities, resulting in increased yields and diversified income streams. School gardens established under the projects are also functioning and are contributing to improved nutrition for pupils while providing practical learning opportunities.

New water and sanitation facilities installed in the districts were inspected for functionality and community uptake. According to the delegation, communities are now benefiting from safer water sources that support daily household needs.

Solar energy systems installed under the projects were reviewed for reliability and their contribution to local livelihoods, particularly in supporting small enterprises. The delegation also assessed awareness campaigns and youth engagement activities linked to the Anti-Drug initiative. Officials noted that the campaigns, combined with improvements in water and sanitation, are helping to foster safer and healthier environments for children and families.

Following the assessments, both SEND Sierra Leone and TERRA TECH identified key areas for future action. These include scaling successful models in climate-smart agriculture and renewable energy, strengthening monitoring and maintenance systems for water and sanitation facilities, deepening youth participation in prevention and livelihood activities, and enhancing data collection to better capture results and inform programming.

SEND Sierra Leone expressed appreciation to TERRA TECH and BMZ for their technical guidance and continued support.

“The visit reaffirmed the value of partnerships grounded in accountability, learning, and a shared vision for lasting impact,” the organization said in a statement.

SEND added that it remains committed to working alongside TERRA TECH and BMZ to deliver sustainable solutions that improve lives and create opportunities across the country.
