Sierra Leone’s aviation sector experienced a significant boost during the ECOWAS Summit, with more than 2,300 commercial passengers processed at the country’s airport between July 17 and 19.
Data released by the Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority (SLCAA) shows the airport recorded 2,367 commercial passengers over the three-day period. The authority also logged 17 commercial flights and 15 private jet movements, indicating strong activity in both scheduled and charter operations.
According to the SLCAA, flight operations were carried out smoothly, securely, and with effective coordination, with systems in place successfully managing the increased volume without disruption. The authority praised aviation staff for their professionalism and dedication throughout the summit period.
Officials said the figures reflect the sector’s expanding capacity to handle rising demand while upholding high standards of safety, security, and efficiency. Stakeholders across the industry were credited for their teamwork in ensuring seamless arrivals and departures.
The SLCAA also expressed appreciation to the broader aviation community for their continued commitment to delivering safe and reliable air transport services, a move it said strengthens Sierra Leone’s regional and international connectivity.
