Dr. Ibrahim Bangura has taken an early lead in an independent APC flagbearer opinion poll, securing 3,600 votes out of 10,359 cast and opening a wide margin over other declared aspirants ahead of the party’s 2028 presidential ticket race.
According to results circulated on WhatsApp, former Vice President Chief Alhaji Samuel Sam Sumana placed second with 1,400 votes. Lawyer Ady Macauley Esq. and Bai Mahmoud Bangura are tied for third and fourth positions with 1,300 votes each.
Sheikh Alhaji Mohamed O. Kamara followed in fifth with 1,200 votes. The rest of the field polled lower: Dr. Richard Konteh 458, Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr 257, Dr. Kaifala Marah 235, Chernor R.M. Bah 147, Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara Esq. 119, and Osman Abdal Timbo Esq. 80.
The organizers described the exercise as an independent opinion poll intended to gauge sentiment among participants on social media. They emphasized that it is not a scientific survey and should not be taken as a predictor of the APC’s eventual flagbearer or the outcome of the 2028 general elections. Voting in the poll remains open.
Despite the disclaimer, the results have fueled early debate within the APC about name recognition and support ahead of formal processes. The party has not yet announced a timetable for its flagbearer convention.
Political observers say the poll reflects growing interest in the 2028 contest within sections of the APC base, with online engagement becoming an early indicator of momentum even before official campaigning begins.
