Dozens of young Sierra Leoneans have graduated from the Orange Foundation Sierra Leone’s Next Gen Summer Camp 2026, equipped with new skills in coding, web development and 3D design.
The certification ceremony was held on Friday, August 28, 2026 at the Orange Digital Centre, bringing together children aged 7 to 15, parents, trainers and invited guests to mark the end of the 4-week programme that began on August 4.
What started as a summer learning initiative transformed into a showcase of creativity and problem-solving. Participants were trained to think critically, collaborate and turn ideas into working projects.
In the coding class, children used Scratch, the programming platform developed by MIT, to build interactive stories, animations and games. One standout was “Flying Carrots,” a game that demonstrated both technical understanding and imagination.
Web development participants presented websites reflecting their interests and ambitions. Projects included a platform promoting Sierra Leonean fashion and culture, an e-commerce site, a football information portal, an educational flashcard system, and a beginner’s coding tutorial site.
The 3D Modelling and Printing class produced some of the most practical innovations. Children designed a rainwater filtration system and a self-watering flower vase — solutions aimed at addressing everyday community challenges.
Parents described the presentations as emotional and inspiring, noting the rapid growth in their children’s confidence, communication skills and technical ability in just a few weeks.
Orange Foundation Sierra Leone said the camp reflects its commitment to digital inclusion and youth empowerment. By providing hands-on access to technology, the Foundation aims to nurture the next generation of innovators, creators and problem-solvers.
For the graduates, receiving certificates marked the start of a new journey. Many said the programme had sparked bigger dreams in technology, innovation and entrepreneurship.
Officials noted that initiatives like Next Gen Summer Camp are helping to build a more digitally empowered future for Sierra Leone by investing in young talent early.
