The National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) has tabled a NLe187.8 million budget for the 2027 financial year to expand social protection coverage to vulnerable households nationwide.
The proposal was presented during the ongoing Bilateral Budget Hearings at the Ministry of Finance, chaired by Acting Finance Minister Madam Kadiatu Allie.
Of the total NLe187,825,410, a huge NLe155.3 million is earmarked for the Digital Social Protection Registry, while NLe14.7 million will target 100,000 households in climate-vulnerable areas.
The National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA) also presented its performance, disclosing that 87% of donor commitments — US$153.21 million out of US$171.44 million — had been disbursed as of August 2026. However, government funding remains low at just 23%.
NaCSA said for 2027 it will deliver cash transfers to 30,000 beneficiaries, temporary jobs for 22,000 youths, and 50 social infrastructure projects.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change proposed NLe22.9 million for 2027 to cover environmental monitoring, emergency response, and sustainable forestry management.
The hearings continue as government agencies align their budgets with national priorities.
