HRCSL, LABOUR MINISTRY PROBE WORKER’S DEATH AT MIRO FORESTRY

By Joseph Momoh, D.S

FREETOWN — The Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone (HRCSL) and the Ministry of Employment, Labour and Social Security have launched a joint investigation into the alleged death of a worker at Miro Forestry Company in Mile 91.

The investigation, led by HRCSL’s Directorate of Business and Human Rights and the Labour Ministry, is probing the circumstances surrounding the death of Sulaiman B. Kamara, an employee who had served the company for over four years.

It was alleged that Kamara was reported dead while on duty on August 11, 2026, linked to the operations of the company.

The joint probe follows an earlier meeting convened at the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security, where the management of Miro Forestry Company was summoned to explain the circumstances that led to the death of their employee.

The meeting ended with a commitment from both institutions to closely monitor the full operations of Miro Forestry, with particular focus on the working conditions and welfare of its staff, while awaiting the outcome of the investigation report to issue further directives to the company.
