JFK BACK TO PADEMBA ROAD AFTER FAILED BAIL BID

FREETOWN — Lawyer Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara, popularly known as JFK, has been returned to the Pademba Road Correctional Centre after a brief appearance before the Supreme Court where his expected apology and bail application failed to materialise.

Kamara, who is representing plaintiff Osman Abdal Timbo in the ongoing constitutional amendment matter, was brought to court to provide another opportunity to render what the court had demanded as a proper apology over utterances he made during Wednesday’s proceedings.

The Chief Justice, Justice Komba Kamanda, had earlier deemed Kamara’s initial apology inadequate and ordered that he specifically withdraw the remarks. Following that ruling, Kamara was held in contempt and remanded at Pademba Road until Tuesday, October 13, when the Supreme Court is expected to resume hearing on constitutional amendment matters.

Sources had indicated that Thursday’s appearance was to allow him to apologise afresh and for his lawyers to apply for bail. However, the anticipated hearing did not go ahead and he was taken back into custody.

The development corrects an earlier report by this medium, based on information circulated by ECKO Media, that Kamara had been granted bail. That information has now been established to be inaccurate.

Kamara is lead counsel for Osman Abdal Timbo, one of the plaintiffs challenging the Constitutional Amendment Bill which was treated as passed in August.

The Supreme Court is scheduled to resume proceedings on Tuesday, 13th October 2026.

Editorial Note: We regret the earlier publication of incorrect information regarding Kamara’s bail application. This correction is issued to provide readers with the accurate position.
