KAILAHUN — Chief Justice of Sierra Leone, His Lordship Justice Komba Kamanda, has commissioned the first ultramodern judicial quarters in Kailahun District, in a major boost for the welfare of judicial officers serving outside Freetown.

The fully furnished facility, located at Reservation in Kailahun Town, Luawa Chiefdom, was commissioned on 15th October 2026. It is designed to house the Resident High Court Judge and Magistrate, with modern amenities including a full solar power system, DStv television services and other essential facilities.

Each quarter comprises three bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, a dining room, kitchen and store, with additional boys’ quarters and supporting amenities.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chief Justice Kamanda said the facility is a strategic investment in the administration of justice, stressing that judicial officers require decent and conducive accommodation to perform effectively.

“This is the meaning of true justice and forms part of my Access to Justice agenda,” Justice Kamanda said, reaffirming his commitment to improving the living and working conditions of judicial officers nationwide.

He assured that similar ultramodern quarters would be established in every district and district headquarters town.

“I will continue to ensure that Judges and Magistrates are working in a conducive environment to better do their work,” he said.

The Chief Justice thanked President Julius Maada Bio for his commitment to investing in judicial infrastructure and providing resources to strengthen justice delivery, and commended the people of Kailahun for their cooperation in completing the project.

Paramount Chief of Luawa Chiefdom, PC Kailondo Sama Banya, in his welcome address, described the quarters — coming after improved court facilities — as an important contribution to justice delivery in the district. He however appealed for similar accommodation for judicial support staff, whom he said are essential to the functioning of the courts.

“The Judge and Magistrate can never work without the judicial support staff,” PC Banya said.

Minister of Works and Public Assets, Dr. Denise M. Sandy, who joined the commissioning, assured that President Bio remains committed to supporting similar initiatives across the country.

Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Alpha Sesay Esq., who described Kailahun as his home, said it was heartwarming to witness the commitment that led to the completion of the project, noting that suitable accommodation is critical for effective justice administration.

The ceremony climaxed with the handing over of keys by the Minister of Works and Public Assets to the Chief Justice and the cutting of the tape to officially commission the facility.
