Volunteers from the Sierra Leone Red Cross Society (SLRCS) Kono branch are making significant strides in promoting community service and volunteerism among youth through a series of school visits and an expanding membership drive.
Their mission is to inspire students to engage in humanitarian work by equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to make a positive impact in their communities.
Recently, the volunteers visited Eastern Moral Academy, where they discussed the importance of humanitarian efforts, community service, and first aid training. The interactive session aimed to raise awareness about the critical role young people can play in supporting the Red Cross’s mission and contributing to a safer, more compassionate society.
Additionally, the team conducted a special “Red Cross Hour” at Gbense High School, where students learned about the various programs offered by the Red Cross and the benefits of becoming active members. The assembly served as a platform for volunteers to emphasize the value of volunteerism and encourage students to join the movement.
With each school visit, SLRCS volunteers are fostering a strong sense of community and responsibility among the youth. Their passion for creating a better future resonates with students, motivating many to consider volunteering and making a difference in their local areas.
The membership drive is gaining momentum, with an increasing number of students expressing interest in joining the Red Cross and contributing to its life-saving initiatives. The energy and dedication of the Kono branch volunteers are leaving a lasting impression, cultivating a spirit of volunteerism and humanitarian action among the next generation.
