Chief Justice Kamanda Pledges Judiciary Reform

Freetown, Chief Justice Komba Kamanda has reaffirmed his dedication to leading the Judiciary of Sierra Leone with fairness and integrity during his inaugural address to judicial staff following his appointment in December.

In his speech, Justice Kamanda emphasized the importance of delivering unbiased justice and ensuring prompt case resolutions across all court structures. He underscored his commitment to promoting staff who demonstrate professionalism and dedication, while also warning against complacency and laxity in duties.

To facilitate timely justice, he directed that bail approvals be expedited to prevent unnecessary delays in releasing qualified accused persons. Hon. Justice Jamesina King and Hon. Justice Tonia Barnett echoed the Chief Justice’s vision, highlighting the judiciary’s core values and the necessity of adhering to best practices.

The Master and Registrar of the High Court reiterated the importance of proper procedures for managing court files and emphasized the potential for revenue generation through file searches.

Judicial staff expressed renewed optimism and committed to supporting the Chief Justice’s reform initiatives. Additionally, magistrates’ courts have been instructed to commence sittings promptly at 9:00 AM, with registrars expected to arrive by 8:30 AM, in a bid to enhance efficiency and restore public trust in the judiciary.
