His Excellency Luc Briard, the French Ambassador to Sierra Leone, recently visited the Police Headquarters on George Street for a courtesy meeting with Inspector General of Police (IGP) William Fayia Sellu. The visit aimed to bolster collaboration between the French government and the Sierra Leone Police.
During the meeting, IGP Sellu warmly welcomed Ambassador Briard and his delegation, highlighting the significance of bilateral relations in tackling security challenges faced by both nations. He provided the ambassador with an overview of Sierra Leone’s current security landscape, describing it as “relatively peaceful and secure.” This stability, he noted, is largely attributed to effective cooperation among Sierra Leone’s security agencies and their partners within the Mano River Union.
The IGP assured the ambassador of the safety of both citizens and visitors, pointing to regular border security patrols by police and security personnel as crucial in maintaining national safety. He further discussed recent crime investigations, emphasizing that crime rates in Sierra Leone are significantly lower than those in neighboring countries.
Additionally, IGP Sellu briefed Ambassador Briard on the newly launched Police Strategic Development Plan, a comprehensive initiative aimed at enhancing the Sierra Leone Police’s effectiveness in fulfilling their core mandate of maintaining peace and security.
Ambassador Briard expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and commended the police for their commitment to safeguarding the nation. He reaffirmed his support for the Sierra Leone Police through the exchange of ideas and training to address emerging security challenges.
The meeting concluded with both parties reaffirming their dedication to deeper collaboration in addressing security issues.
