The National Revenue Authority (NRA) has partnered with the Ministry of Information and Civic Education to launch the Civic Day Series in Port Loko, aimed at enhancing the relationship between government and local communities.

This initiative seeks to establish a direct communication channel between government officials and citizens, promoting awareness of civic responsibilities, particularly in relation to tax obligations. Saffiatu E. Charles, the Supervisor for Public Affairs and Tax Education at the NRA, emphasized the significance of these engagements. “These interactions provide residents with an opportunity to pose important questions directly to the heads of various ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs), gaining first-hand insight into their operations and initiatives,” she stated.

Charles further noted that the Civic Day program not only fosters transparency but also encourages active community participation in governance. The series is set to expand to other districts, featuring a diverse range of government officials who will engage with students, local leaders, teachers, and business owners.

The ongoing series reflects the government’s commitment to inclusive civic education, with the NRA playing a pivotal role in outreach efforts. By informing citizens about their rights and obligations, particularly regarding tax responsibilities, the NRA and the Ministry of Information and Civic Education aim to empower communities to actively participate in the nation’s development.
