Four Arrested for Counterfeiting APC Membership ID Cards

Freetown, May 22, 2025 — The All People’s Congress (APC) convened an emergency press briefing today at its headquarters to address allegations regarding the undermining of the party’s registration process.

Lanasan Dumbuya, the APC’s national secretary-general, emphasized the urgency of the meeting to clarify recent events surrounding party membership. He noted that the APC has encountered multiple court cases prior to its convention, raising concerns about membership irregularities.

“At that time, we observed attempts by several individuals to circumvent the established registration process,” Dumbuya stated. He highlighted that the Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC) had advised the APC to implement a comprehensive database and registration system.

Upon receiving the party’s membership database from his predecessor, Dumbuya found approximately 40,000 registrations from the ITGC, along with an additional 90,000, totaling around 130,000 members.

“Immediately after the handover, I instructed the ITC expert to close that database to prevent any manipulation,” Dumbuya asserted. He noted that when individuals realized they could not exploit the new registration system, some reverted to using old ID cards, falsely claiming to be long-standing members seeking verification.

Dumbuya cautioned, “If you are using that process, I want to inform you that it is a waste of effort.”

He also disclosed that a person was apprehended for printing old APC ID cards at a local printing shop. The shop owner and three others have since been arrested, and investigations are ongoing.
