Meditation with Pastor Tom
Everyone wants a blessing. We often hear the expression, “May God bless you”, or “Be
blessed, go with my blessings”.
To be blessed is a really good thing. It is a wonderful gift to receive a blessing from someone you admire, a treasure filled with hope and promise
As I age, growing older, hopefully with some wisdom , gained by experience, I have learned that blessings, like many other things occur in direct coorlation to where one places him / her self.
Let me give you an example. If you want to experience the blessings of a shower, you must place yourself in the direct path of the water flow. You must be under it, not off to the side or above it, you must be under the shower head in the direction the water flows. Properly placed, you will receive and experience the blessings of a shower.
The same principle holds for receiving the blessing of God. He tells you where to position yourself in relation to him. The first Psalm tells us very clearly, ” blessed is the person who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked”. When you walk along with, or hang out with people who have evil intentions, or you keep company with those who suggest and encourage ideas, or involvement with vulgar words, selfish pursuits you WILL NOT BE BLESSED by God.
Walking along side by side with such people will lead to stopping and then sitting with them. You will become like them, yes, you will sit with them and become what they are. The blessing of God comes in a negative and a positive activity. Negatively speaking , God blesses the person who does not give way to discussing, or playing with evil ideas, thoughts and the behaviors that so readily follow. God blesses those who know how to say “no”. God brings life blessings of many kinds to those who are willing to resist the tide of popular opinion and give oneself to the choices of integrity and truth, even if I must walk alone. The greatest blessings come to those who can discern right from wrong, truth from error, and who chose their course accordingly. Then there will be ” showers of blessing, sent from the Father above.”. Next time we will look at the positive side of seeking blessings.
Thanks for listening.
