The Sierra Leone government has evacuated all diplomatic staff from its embassy in Tehran, along with 36 Sierra Leonean students residing in Iran, due to escalating security concerns. The relocation took place on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, with all individuals safely brought to Armenia.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation announced the evacuation following a comprehensive assessment of the security situation in the Islamic Republic of Iran. To ensure the continuity of consular services, a temporary task force comprising embassy personnel has been established in Armenia. This team will manage administrative duties and monitor developments in Iran.
This evacuation comes amidst ongoing hostilities between Israel and Iran, with recent strikes exchanged following Israel’s operation aimed at dismantling Tehran’s nuclear program.
The government has reassured the public of its commitment to the safety and well-being of its citizens abroad.
