The Sierra Leone Police have confirmed the arrest of three individuals connected to an alleged missing diamond in Kholifa Mabang Chiefdom, located in the Tonkolili District. The suspects—Wanda Conteh, Yusif Tarawallie, and Mabinty Tarawallie—are currently in custody and will be transferred to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters in Freetown for further inquiry.
The incident began when local farmer Fatmata Sankoh discovered a peculiar stone, believed to be a diamond, while tending to her farm in Roborssor village. She reportedly presented the stone to Wanda Conteh, who subsequently passed it to Yusif Tarawallie. Despite attempts by local authorities to resolve the matter through traditional means, the case has now escalated to police involvement.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Mohamed V. Sannoh, the Crime Officer at Mile 91 Police Station, confirmed the arrests and the planned transfer of the suspects to Freetown. “The matter, along with all related files and the suspects, will be moved to the CID headquarters in Freetown because it’s a State case,” he stated.
Residents of Kholifa Mabang are closely following the investigation, particularly as the area has recently been recognized as a mineral-rich zone. The police are tasked with verifying the authenticity of the stone and clarifying the circumstances surrounding its alleged disappearance. As the investigation progresses, the community remains hopeful for a resolution that will provide clarity and justice.
