The Kamara family is engulfed in grief and suspicion following the unexpected death of Mohamed Kamara, a Sierra Leonean national who passed away less than 24 hours after returning from the United States on July 22, 2025.
Family members have lodged a formal complaint with the Bo Police Division, alleging that Mohamed’s wife poisoned him shortly after his arrival. This accusation has sparked a police investigation and captured the attention of the local community.
According to relatives, Mohamed and his wife’s relationship began in Guinea in 2012, culminating in their marriage under Islamic rites, followed by a civil ceremony in May 2013. Following their marriage, Mohamed relocated to the United States for employment opportunities, while his wife remained in Bo.
Family members express suspicions regarding Mohamed’s sudden demise, asserting that he appeared to be in good health upon his return. They believe he may have been deliberately poisoned. His wife, however, has vehemently denied these allegations, stating that she maintained constant phone contact with him during his journey from Lungi International Airport to Bo. She recounted that upon his arrival just after midnight, they unpacked together until approximately 3:00 a.m. before retiring for the night.
The following morning, she reported waking around 8:00 a.m. to prepare breakfast, only to discover Mohamed lying in an unusual position. He urgently requested medical assistance, leading her to contact his nephew, who assisted in transporting him to Kindoya Hospital in Bo, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Subsequently, Mohamed’s body was transferred to the 34 Military Hospital in Freetown for a postmortem examination to ascertain the cause of death. His wife claimed the autopsy indicated a head fracture as the cause, contradicting the poisoning allegations. However, the family has yet to confirm receipt of or acknowledge this report.
The Bo Police have indicated that the investigation is ongoing and will provide updates as new information emerges. The case has ignited discussions among locals, raising broader issues of trust, inheritance, and the challenges associated with transnational marriages.
As the investigation unfolds, the Kamara family awaits clarity on the circumstances surrounding Mohamed’s tragic passing.
