NRA Implements Mandatory Banking Verification for Customs Payments

By Joseph Momoh, Daily Scope

The National Revenue Authority (NRA) has announced a new mandatory banking verification process for customs clearance, as detailed in a public notice issued on August 14, 2025.

Following discussions with commercial banks and Clearing and Forwarding Agencies, the NRA has informed importers, clearing agents, and the general public that all payments related to customs transactions will now require comprehensive banking verification, managed by the NRA’s Customs Services Department.

Under the new regulations, all bank deposit slips must be presented to assigned Customs Officers for authentication before any clearance procedures can commence. This initiative aims to ensure that all payments are properly verified to reduce the risk of errors or discrepancies that may lead to financial losses or operational delays.

The National Revenue Authority encourages full cooperation from all importers and clearing agents, emphasizing the importance of this measure in streamlining customs operations.
