On August 20, 2025, U.S. Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Bryan David Hunt, welcomed members of the Millennium Challenge Authority Sierra Leone (MCA-SL) Board of Directors for a luncheon at his residence. The gathering aimed to celebrate the resumption of the MCC Compact implementation and to outline forthcoming steps for the initiative.

The board is currently focused on recruiting an executive team for MCA-SL, as well as appointing two members from Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and one representative from the private sector to complete its roster. Earlier this year, Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah, highlighted that Sierra Leone stands out as the only African nation approved for the MCC Compact by the U.S. Government without any alterations to its program.

Minister Bah made this announcement during a press briefing, revealing that the U.S. conducted a comprehensive review of trade and foreign investments in 25 countries participating in the MCC program. The MCC Compact is anticipated to significantly improve energy access and reliability in Sierra Leone, thereby fostering economic growth and enhancing the quality of life for its citizens.
