Myk Berewa, Director of Communications at State House, has taken to Facebook to address concerns surrounding the recently unveiled Citizenship-by-Investment program initiated by the Sierra Leone government.

“Salone is not simply handing out passports to foreigners. We are implementing a fast-track citizenship initiative for investors, which is a standard practice in many countries. Over 20 nations currently offer legal citizenship options through investment,” Berewa explained.

The program, which allows foreign investors to obtain citizenship and passports in exchange for financial contributions, has drawn criticism due to its perceived lack of transparency. Many citizens have voiced their apprehensions on social media about the absence of an official government announcement, parliamentary discussions, or publicly accessible policy documents related to the initiative. Reports suggest that American nationals have been among the first to benefit from this scheme.
