Freetown, August 27, 2025 — Dr. Kandeh Yumkella, the Energy Sector Lead, conducted an on-site inspection of the maintenance work on generators at the Blackhall Road Power Station today. This initiative, aimed at enhancing electricity delivery across Freetown, comes as part of a broader effort to support homes, businesses, and essential services.

During his visit, Dr. Yumkella emphasized that his presence at the power station was in direct response to directives from President Julius Maada Bio. He expressed gratitude for the President’s commitment to ensuring that financial obstacles do not impede the ongoing repairs. Dr. Yumkella highlighted a recent meeting with President Bio, where the urgency of the generator repairs was a focal point. He acknowledged the President’s approval of necessary funding, which will facilitate the generation of 16MW of electricity once the repairs are completed.

The Energy Sector Lead commended the collaborative efforts of Deputy Minister of Energy and the Director General of the Electricity Generation and Transmission Company (EGTC) in overseeing the maintenance. He also praised the engineers for their dedication to completing the rehabilitation work by December.

Dr. Yumkella expressed optimism about the project’s progress, noting the availability of spare parts as a critical factor in expediting repairs. He noted that the synergy between international and local engineers is further enhancing the efficiency of the work.

“As we align our energy sector with the Feed Salone agenda, reforms are underway to ensure sustainable energy solutions for the future,” he concluded.
