WATAF Delegation Engages with Finance Minister Ahead of Regional Tax Conference

A delegation from the West African Tax Administration Forum (WATAF) recently met with Sierra Leone’s Finance Minister, Ahmed Sheku Fantamadi Bangura, as the nation gears up to host the annual regional tax conference in Freetown from September 15 to 19.

During the visit, Jeneba Bangura, representing WATAF, expressed gratitude for the Minister’s warm reception and emphasized the Forum’s pivotal role in enhancing tax administration to improve public service delivery and foster development across West Africa.

WATAF Executive Director Jules Tapsoba highlighted the importance of this year’s AGM being held in Sierra Leone for the first time. He noted the Forum’s eagerness to learn from Sierra Leone’s advancements and reforms, particularly in the context of current global economic challenges. Tapsoba reiterated the crucial role of effective tax administration in financing local development.

WATAF Chairperson and Director General of the Burkina Faso Revenue Authority, Madam Elaine Djigueemde-Ouedraogo, also conveyed her appreciation to the Sierra Leonean government and the National Revenue Authority (NRA) for their efforts in organizing the meeting.

In his remarks, Minister Bangura reaffirmed the NRA’s integral role within the Ministry of Finance and stressed that the importance of tax administration in the region’s development goals must be a focal point of the upcoming discussions. He assured the delegation of Sierra Leone’s commitment to implementing tax reforms and considering the outcomes of the AGM.
