In a concerted effort to ensure a peaceful and credible rescheduling of the Paramount Chieftaincy Election, Sierra Leonean authorities engaged with key stakeholders in Tunkia Chiefdom on Saturday, September 20, 2025.

The meeting, led by CSP Bob Musa Nazlic Mansaray, Local Unit Commander of the Kenema Division, brought together community leaders and residents to reinforce the commitment to a transparent electoral process devoid of violence. This engagement follows the disruption of a previous election, highlighting the government’s dedication to restoring trust and maintaining law and order in the region.

Regent Chief Sumaila Munda welcomed the delegation in Gorahun, expressing appreciation for the community’s patience and underscoring the importance of electing a rightful leader for Tunkia. He characterized the visit as both timely and crucial for rebuilding confidence in the electoral system.

Senior District Officer Harun K. Turay reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance stance on electoral fraud, announcing that voter lists will be publicly displayed for verification. He stressed that proxy voting is strictly prohibited, with offenders facing legal repercussions.

Mr. Alex Saffa, a representative from the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone (ECSL), acknowledged previous electoral challenges and assured the community that new measures have been implemented to enhance oversight and transparency. He pointed to the appointment of Acting Commissioner Mr. Edward Sylvester Alpha as a significant step forward.

Security was a top priority during the discussions. CSP Mansaray assured residents of police support to create a safe environment for all voters, urging citizens to reject violence and resolve conflicts through lawful means.

The community left the meeting with a renewed sense of optimism, confident that the upcoming Paramount Chieftaincy Election will proceed peacefully, fairly, and transparently. There is a collective hope for a smooth electoral process that upholds the integrity of Tunkia’s leadership.
