Kambia, September 30, 2025 – The Masera Thenkle village in Kambia District has recently received a significant boost in energy access through the Lite Salone Project, funded by Ireland. This initiative aims to provide sustainable and clean energy to rural communities in the region.

Currently in its pilot phase, the project plans to electrify approximately 18,000 households in Kambia by 2026. It will supply solar energy kits and lamps, enhancing electricity access while creating livelihood opportunities, especially for women and youth.

Implemented by Trocaire in collaboration with the Kambia District Development and Rehabilitation Organization (KADDRO-SL), the project is supported by Irish Aid, the Icelandic Embassy, and the European Union through GIZ Sierra Leone and Liberia. It exemplifies the Ministry of Energy’s commitment to improving electricity access and promoting clean cooking solutions in rural areas.

As the energy sector continues to evolve, reforms are being undertaken as part of the broader Feed Salone agenda to ensure sustainable energy access throughout the country.
