On October 2, 2025, the leadership of the Ministry of Health (MoH) conducted a comprehensive inspection of the newly constructed Maternity Centre of Excellence, preparing for its upcoming official commissioning.

The inspection was led by Chief Medical Officer Dr. Sartie Kenneh, who, accompanied by senior officials, toured the state-of-the-art facility designed to elevate maternal and neonatal care across the country.

This new centre underscores the commitment of Minister of Health Dr. Austin Demby to protect the lives of mothers and infants while enhancing access to high-quality medical care. Once operational, the Maternity Centre of Excellence will offer top-tier maternity services and function as a training and research hub for healthcare practitioners.

The facility boasts advanced medical technology, increased bed capacity, and a team of highly skilled healthcare professionals. The official commissioning, anticipated in the coming weeks, will represent a significant milestone in Sierra Leone’s ongoing healthcare transformation efforts.
