Riyadh, November 10, 2025 During her address at the ongoing UN Tourism Conference, Sierra Leone’s Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Hon. Nabeela Farida Tunis, emphasized the country’s strategic commitment to integrating technology into its tourism sector.
Minister Tunis outlined Sierra Leone’s plans to utilize Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance the travel experience by showcasing the nation’s distinctive cultural and natural offerings. Highlighting President Dr. Julius Maada Bio’s initiative to establish a dedicated ministry for technology and innovation, she expressed a strong desire for collaboration with industry leaders, particularly from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which is recognized for its advancements in smart tourism.
“Sierra Leone is eager to partner with the industry and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, whose leadership in smart tourism inspires us,” Minister Tunis stated. She further noted that the collaboration aims to enhance AI applications in digital marketing, capacity building, and tourism intelligence, advocating for technology that complements human creativity rather than replaces it.
The Minister reiterated the ambition to emerge as a premier ecotourism destination, ensuring that technological progress benefits local communities and fosters inclusive growth. She also voiced support for the Riyadh Declaration, joining other nations in its endorsement.
The ongoing conference serves as a platform for global leaders to address the future of tourism, with Minister Tunis’s active participation reflecting a commitment to contributing to the transformation of the tourism landscape worldwide.
