The Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority (SLCAA) has officially shut down Urban Travel and Tours, an air ticketing agency operating without a valid license in Freetown.

In a public announcement dated November 12, 2025, the SLCAA reported that the agency, located at 1 Back Street, had been engaged in air ticket sales in violation of the Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Act of 2023.

The enforcement action was taken under Section 15 of the Act, which empowers the SLCAA to regulate all civil aviation activities in the country, including the certification and oversight of air travel agencies. This regulation is aligned with the obligations set out in the Chicago Convention, which emphasizes the importance of compliance with both national and international aviation standards.

The SLCAA specified that Urban Travel and Tours had not met the requisite certification standards mandated for air travel agencies. Consequently, the SLCAA sealed the agency’s offices and issued a stark warning to the public to refrain from conducting any transactions with Urban Travel and Tours for air ticketing services.

In its statement, the Authority reaffirmed its dedication to protecting travelers and ensuring transparency while maintaining the aviation sector’s integrity. The SLCAA stressed that all aviation-related businesses must adhere to established regulations to safeguard public interests.

The SLCAA is urging citizens to verify the licensing status of travel agencies before purchasing tickets or engaging in related activities.
