The Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs recently held an audition for fashion designers across Sierra Leone. The event aimed to select representatives for the upcoming Women in Tourism Regional Congress, scheduled for October 29-31, 2024, in collaboration with UN Tourism.
During the audition, designers showcased their skills in trend analysis, pattern making, garment construction, sewing techniques, African fabric selection, and organic and recycled designs. Deputy Minister Khadijatu Grace Kamara thanked the participants for exhibiting their unique products, emphasizing the goal of avoiding product duplication at the Regional Congress.
Three talented designers – Davida Peacock-Sawyerr, Mariama Kamara, and Phedelia Thomas – were selected to represent Sierra Leone at the next Expo in China.
In a separate engagement, the Ministry met with the Chef Association of Sierra Leone to discuss live cooking demonstrations of traditional Sierra Leonean delicacies during the Women in Tourism Regional Congress. The Chef Association enthusiastically accepted the request, committing to the event’s success.
