Koidu City, Sierra Leone – November 21, 2025
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) recently conducted a sensitization meeting with staff from the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) at their district office in Koidu City. The session aimed to promote integrity, transparency, and accountability within the Authority’s operations.
Acting Regional Director for Kono, Andrew Demby, opened the meeting by referencing Section 7 (1) (a) of the ACC Act 2008, as amended in 2019, which empowers the Commission to implement measures to prevent and combat corruption in Sierra Leone.
Demby emphasized that the discussion focused on policy issues impacting the SLRSA and aimed to foster collaboration in minimizing corruption in daily operations. He underscored the connection between effective service delivery and increased revenue generation, clarifying that the ACC is not a “witch-hunt” organization but is dedicated to ensuring quality service across public bodies.
Senior Public Education Officer, Sam P. Gogra, highlighted the importance of strategic partnerships in the fight against corruption. He reiterated the ACC’s commitment to impartiality and transparency, showcasing recent accomplishments such as comprehensive public education campaigns, systems reviews in various ministries, the creation of Citizens Service Delivery Charters, and the recovery of millions of Leones and assets from individuals found guilty of corruption. Gogra pointed out Sierra Leone’s 71 percent score on the control of corruption indicator in the recently released MCC FY 2026 Scorecard as a testament to the ACC’s ongoing efforts.
He also informed attendees about corruption-related offenses under the Anti-Corruption Act, which include bribery, misappropriation of funds, abuse of office, and conflicts of interest. He outlined the penalties for such offenses, which may include fines, imprisonment, or both, and discussed methods for reporting corruption along with protections for whistle-blowers.
In closing, Eric A. Sam, Head of Station SLRSA Kono, praised the ACC team for the interactive and timely discussion. He highlighted ongoing efforts to decentralize services to reduce delays and bureaucracy, pledging full support from his staff in the fight against corruption.
