On November 24, 2025, Ing. Tiideni Hawa Jabbi, the newly appointed Managing Director of the Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO) and the first woman to hold this position, commenced Day 5 of her nationwide tour. Accompanied by Board Chairman Joseph Ndanema and Board Member PC Amy, she visited Mile 91 in the Tonkolili District, as well as Moyamba and Bonthe Island.
In Mile 91, SALWACO’s Station Manager, Ing. Osman Pele Bangura, welcomed the delegation, congratulating MD Jabbi on her appointment. He highlighted the strides towards increased efficiency within SALWACO while also addressing ongoing challenges. Community representatives expressed their congratulations and urged the management to enhance water service delivery.
Board Chairman Joseph Ndanema stressed the new vision for SALWACO, emphasizing the importance of addressing community concerns. He assured attendees that he would communicate these issues to the Board and Management for prompt action.
MD Jabbi thanked the community for their feedback and committed to collaborating with SALWACO management to ensure the organization effectively fulfills its mandate and achieves financial viability. She also acknowledged customers’ willingness to pay for water services, pledging improvements in service delivery.
During her visit to Moyamba, Ing. Yankuba Tarawally, Director of Project Management, provided an update on the status of ongoing projects, indicating that completion is at 70%. She expressed optimism that the project would soon conclude, ushering in a new era of improved water provision for the community. Station/Project Manager Ing. Bayoh also reported on the progress made and assured attendees of successful project completion.
In Bonthe, SALWACO’s Director of Operations, Ing. Abdul Ben Lebbie, and Director of Project Management, Ing. Yankuba Tarawally, briefed MD Jabbi on project developments and highlighted essential mechanisms for ensuring successful completion. Station Manager Mr. Johnny and his team provided further insights into the station’s operations.
This nationwide tour aims to give MD Jabbi a comprehensive understanding of station operations and explore how management can intervene to sustain effective water provision while enhancing financial viability. The tour will continue in Pujehun, Bo, and Kenema in the coming days before returning to SALWACO Headquarters in Freetown.
