On November 24, 2025, in Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain, Her Excellency Dr. Haja Ramatulai Wurie, Minister of Technical and Higher Education of the Republic of Sierra Leone, engaged in discussions with His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Bin Mubarak Juma, Minister of Education of Bahrain, to explore collaborative initiatives aimed at enhancing educational frameworks between the two nations.
Dr. Juma welcomed Minister Wurie and her delegation, expressing enthusiasm for sharing Bahrain’s innovative approaches to developing a robust education system. He emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to early childhood, primary education, and polytechnic training, detailing various projects designed to bolster education, technical training, and higher learning.
Bahrain’s Minister highlighted ongoing efforts to refine curricula, improve teacher capabilities, and expand digital learning opportunities, creating inclusive environments that empower students to pursue higher education or seamlessly transition into the labor market.
Senior officials from the Ministry of Education presented insights into Bahrain’s educational evolution, discussing historical milestones, regional accomplishments, research initiatives, and the frameworks that support technical education and teacher development.
In her address, Dr. Wurie expressed the government’s eagerness to explore partnerships that enhance the education sector, particularly in tertiary and vocational training. She thanked her Bahraini counterpart for his warm hospitality and the chance to learn from Bahrain’s experiences.
Dr. Wurie outlined the government’s ambitious goals for human capital development, emphasizing education as a cornerstone of national progress. She noted that leveraging technology and promoting women’s empowerment are central to President Dr. Julius Maada Bio’s Big Five Game Changers. She highlighted strategic initiatives, including the establishment of open-distance learning programs and a National School of Postgraduate Studies, and called for collaborative efforts to create impactful educational opportunities that benefit both countries.
During her visit, Dr. Wurie toured the Sheikh Khalifa Bin Salman Institute of Technology and Bahrain Polytechnic, where she learned about the effective implementation of Technical and Vocational Education (TVE). These institutions offer diverse programs, including Artificial Intelligence, robotics, graphics, mechanical engineering, and renewable energy, designed to prepare students for the workforce and support Bahrain’s industrial and technological advancement.
Accompanying Dr. Wurie were Her Excellency Haja Ishata Thomas, Non-resident Ambassador of the Republic of Sierra Leone to Bahrain, Mr. Mohamed Sheikh Kargbo, Permanent Secretary, Mr. George Dambo, Student Secretary of the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education, and Mr. Abu Bakarr Ismail Mbayoh, Third Secretary/Arabic Translator at the Embassy of Sierra Leone in Kuwait.
