Adekunle Adeniyi, the Country Representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), paid a courtesy visit to Sierra Leone’s Minister of Information and Civic Education, Hon. Chernor Bah, on November 27, 2025, at the Ministry’s office in Youyi Building. This visit underscores Sierra Leone’s enduring partnership with UNFPA and their shared commitment to advancing national development.

During the meeting, Minister Bah warmly welcomed Mr. Adeniyi, expressing gratitude for UNFPA’s ongoing support for the country. He conveyed optimism about enhancing collaboration between the two entities. “I want to warmly welcome you to Sierra Leone. I’m excited that you are here, and your sense of urgency and understanding of the national context is truly remarkable,” Minister Bah stated.

In response, Mr. Adeniyi praised the Minister for his significant contributions and expressed confidence in the collaborative efforts ahead. “It’s not often that you meet a Minister who fully grasps both the immediate needs and long-term objectives. Sierra Leone’s youth population is a critical focus for us, alongside women’s empowerment and the principles of Resolution 1325,” he said.

The discussions touched upon several pressing issues, including the upcoming national census, efforts to combat Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), the prohibition of child marriage, youth empowerment initiatives, and promoting safe motherhood. Mr. Adeniyi commended the Sierra Leone government’s proactive measures to enhance the rights of women and children, alongside broader development reforms benefiting young people.

A key highlight of the meeting was the pilot phase of the national census. The UNFPA Representative acknowledged the government’s commitment to allocate significant resources to this crucial undertaking, despite existing fiscal challenges. He reaffirmed UNFPA’s support through technical expertise and capacity-building initiatives.

Minister Bah expressed enthusiasm about the renewed partnership, emphasizing the Ministry’s eagerness to collaborate with UNFPA on projects that will benefit the people of Sierra Leone. “This partnership holds great promise for supporting national priorities and improving lives,” he concluded.
