The Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs, in partnership with the Electoral Commission Sierra Leone (ECSL), has announced key dates for the upcoming paramount chieftaincy elections in Perri and Barrie Chiefdoms, Pujehun District.
Perri Chiefdom will hold its Declaration of Rights on September 16, 2024, followed by polling day on October 2, 2024.
In Barrie Chiefdom, stakeholders will engage on September 19, 2024, followed by assessments from September 23-25, 2024, and a revision period from October 2-4, 2024. Election dates will be announced after these procedures.
Pujehun District Officer Yankuba Joebai assured the public of full readiness for the elections, citing close coordination with the police to ensure security.
He reminded candidates that campaigning is prohibited until after the Declaration of Rights, as per the local chieftaincy act.
Joebai emphasized the requirements to become a tribal authority, including maturity, experience, and being a taxpayer.
He urged residents of both chiefdoms to remain patient and maintain peace throughout the election process.
