Authorities have confirmed that all students at Nyapui Secondary School in Kenema are safe following a fire that partially destroyed a section of the school’s boarding hostel late Tuesday night, February 3, 2026. The incident caused significant property damage, but fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported.
The blaze affected one of the hostel buildings, prompting a rapid response from emergency services and local authorities. A spokesperson for Nyapui School assured the public that the 563 students were accounted for and unharmed. “No lives were lost, and no injuries were recorded,” the school stated.
The Sierra Leone Fire Force, alongside local security agencies and emergency responders, worked collaboratively to contain the fire and prevent further destruction. “We extend our sincere appreciation to all involved for their swift, coordinated, and professional response,” the statement read.
In response to the incident, Nyapui School has activated its emergency protocols, securing the affected areas and commencing recovery efforts for the damaged sections of the hostel. The administration has reassured parents, guardians, and the public that the safety and wellbeing of students remain the highest priority.
