In a thrilling display of athleticism, Adonkia Hall, adorned in yellow, clinched victory at the 2005 Inter-Hall Track and Field Athletics Sports Meet held at the Milton Margai Technical University (MMTU) Sports Grounds in Goderich, Freetown. The meet took place on Thursday, April 10, and Saturday, April 12, 2025, where Adonkia Hall amassed a remarkable 318 points to secure the championship trophy, presented by the Distinguished Grand Chief Patron, Hon. Sidi Mohamed Tunis, a Member of Parliament representing the Sierra Leone Peoples Party for Pujehun District.
Lakka Hall was recognized for its commendable conduct, earning the Best Behaved Hall trophy. Meanwhile, Juba Hall finished in second place with 312 points, followed by Lumley Hall with 272 points, and Lakka Hall rounding out the standings with 253 points.
Addressing a gathering of staff, guests, and athletes, Hon. Sidi Mohamed Tunis applauded the Vice Chancellor and Principal, Professor Philip John Kanu, for the successful organization of the event. He reflected on his 20-year tenure as a Member of Parliament and his aspirations to advance in his political career, following his recent term as Speaker of the Parliament of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
Emphasizing the unifying power of sports, Hon. Tunis noted its potential as a significant economic driver and urged the athletes to take their sporting endeavors seriously, stating that some could emerge as top talents in the future.
In an encouraging tone, he reminded the athletes of their capabilities and pledged to remain a supportive partner of MMTU. Hon. Tunis also shared his experiences visiting other universities like Njala, IPAM, and Fourah Bay College, expressing his intention to return to MMTU for future beneficial engagements.
The sports meet featured several highlights, including a vibrant procession of athletes and officials, the opening address from the Vice Chancellor, oath-taking, and the lighting of the Olympic Torch and University Flame. Competitive events such as the Tug of War finals, 100 meters races for both men and women, and invitation relays for schools and communities were also part of the excitement, culminating in the participation of MMTU alumni.
A special moment during the event was the presentation of a Thank You Card and T-shirts to Hon. Sidi Mohamed Tunis by the Dean of the Brookfield Campus, Madam Aminata Bangura.
