In a significant diplomatic gesture, Dr. Abdul B. Kamara, Director General of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Country Office in Nigeria, presented copies of his impactful book “The Unknown Destination” to Sierra Leone’s Minister of Employment, Labour and Social Security, Mohamed Rahman Swarray, and Ambassador Ernest Ndomahina, Commissioner of the National Commission for Social Action, on Saturday, September 12, 2025.
The handover ceremony took place at the AfDB headquarters in Abuja, marking a historic moment for African collaboration and intellectual exchange.
Dr. Kamara, a distinguished Sierra Leonean development economist, has dedicated decades to advancing the continent’s economic transformation through policy, research, and finance. He holds a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics and Rural Development from the University of Göttingen in Germany, along with executive education credentials from the London School of Economics and Harvard University’s Kennedy School.
In “The Unknown Destination,” Dr. Kamara delves into the systemic challenges facing higher education in Africa, especially during the late 20th and early 21st centuries. The book provides a critical analysis of the continent’s pursuit of educational equity, relevance, and reform in the context of a rapidly changing global knowledge economy.
Both Minister Swarray and Commissioner Ndomahina commended Dr. Kamara for his scholarly contributions and celebrated his achievements within the AfDB. They expressed admiration for his leadership and the exemplary role he plays for Sierra Leone and the wider African community.
This book donation symbolizes not just a ceremonial act but also a testament to African excellence, intellectual legacy, and the vital importance of ideas in shaping the continent’s future.
