Air Sierra Leone has officially announced the launch of a new flight route connecting Freetown to London Gatwick Airport, effective June 16, 2025. The announcement was made by CEO Mr. Emmanuel Iza during a press conference on April 26, 2025, at the Civil Aviation Conference Hall, Freetown International Airport.
Mr. Iza highlighted that this new route builds on the airline’s recent success with its inaugural international service from Freetown to Lagos. Flights will operate three times a week, departing from Freetown every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, with return flights from London every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
To encourage public patronage, tickets are available for purchase at Air Sierra Leone’s office on 23 Siaka Stevens Street, Freetown, and on the airline’s website.
In a move to promote Sierra Leonean culture, Mr. Iza announced that in-flight meals will feature traditional Sierra Leonean dishes, and the onboard language will be Krio, providing passengers with a genuine taste of home.
The launch event was attended by several dignitaries, including Madam Musa Yeroh Barrie, Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority, who praised the expansion as a significant achievement for the country’s aviation sector. She emphasized the importance of enhanced air connectivity for economic growth and international relations.
Honorable Ambassador Retired Colonel Alhaji, Minister of Civil Aviation, expressed his emotional response to the airline’s progress. “I was very emotional when I saw the pictures of the plane and people boarding it. The flight is a six-hour journey from Freetown to London, and as a country, we must be proud of this development,” he stated.
Also present were Chief Minister Dr. David Monina Sengeh and Minister of Tourism Madam Tunis, who commended Air Sierra Leone for this bold initiative and assured the airline of the government’s ongoing support in enhancing tourism and business travel to and from Sierra Leone. “When President Bio says we will deliver, this is what he meant, and this is how Sierra Leone will continue to connect with the world,” he added.
The launch of Air Sierra Leone’s new London route marks a significant milestone in the nation’s aviation industry, bringing Sierra Leone closer to global destinations.
