In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), Kenyan President William Ruto acknowledged the completion of Isatu Aminata Bundu’s assignment as the High Commissioner of Sierra Leone to Kenya. This announcement comes nearly six months after her father, former Sierra Leone Parliament Speaker Hon. Dr. Abass Chernor Bundu, left his post.
“Kenya and Sierra Leone enjoy strong diplomatic relations based on mutual respect,” President Ruto stated. “Ties between our two nations have been bolstered by our shared commitment to pan-Africanism and regional stability.” He highlighted that both countries are exploring new opportunities to enhance cooperation in areas such as agriculture, education, and tourism.
Madam Bundu bid farewell to President Ruto at State House Nairobi, expressing her gratitude for the time spent in Kenya. A statement from Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation confirmed her return home after the successful completion of her diplomatic assignment.
During her tenure, Bundu played a crucial role in strengthening diplomatic ties between Sierra Leone and Kenya. She said goodbye to the staff at the Sierra Leone High Commission and the Kenyan president. Abdul K. Kargbo, the mission’s most senior diplomat, has been appointed Chargé d’Affaires in Nairobi until a permanent replacement is named.
In accordance with Sierra Leone’s 2004 Public Procurement Act, arrangements are being made for Bundu’s return home, including business class airfare for her and her spouse and economy tickets for her three children, as well as the shipping of her possessions and vehicle.
Her departure marks a notable transition in Sierra Leone’s diplomatic and political landscape following her father’s exit from public office earlier this year.
