The Court of Appeal has upheld the findings of the Commission of Inquiry (COI) led by Justice William A. Atuguba, dismissing the appeal filed by former Minister of Works and Public Assets, Hon. Kemoh Sesay.
In a ruling delivered on Monday, the court confirmed that Sesay had unlawfully acquired properties during his time in public office. As part of its judgment, the court ordered the State to confiscate the properties identified as illegally obtained. Furthermore, Sesay has been directed to return $135,000 to the State.
This ruling follows the 2019 seizure of a luxurious mansion owned by Sesay in Aberdeen, Freetown, by Sierra Leone’s Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). The ACC stated that the property was under investigation for alleged corruption and abuse of office linked to former ministers and senior officials of the previous APC government.
