The Audit Service Sierra Leone (ASSL) has announced the submission of the Auditor-General’s 2023 Annual Report to Parliament. The report, which covers the financial year ending December 31, 2023, was officially presented on December 9, 2024.
In a press release, ASSL indicated that the report will be made publicly accessible on its website, [www.auditservice.gov.sl], following its tabling in Parliament. This submission aligns with Section 119(2) of Sierra Leone’s 1991 Constitution, which mandates the Auditor-General to audit the Public Accounts of the country and all public offices, including courts, central and local government administrations, universities, public institutions, and statutory corporations funded in whole or in part by public funds.
Additionally, Section 119(4) of the Constitution requires the Auditor-General to submit the audit report to Parliament within twelve months of the financial year’s conclusion. The report highlights any irregularities in the audited accounts and other matters requiring Parliament’s attention.
The Audit Service reaffirmed its commitment to promoting excellence and accountability in public institutions, stating, “The ASSL will continue to be a leading audit organization promoting transparency and ensuring the prudent management of public resources.” The release of the 2023 Annual Report is expected to provide critical insights into the financial management and governance of Sierra Leone’s public institutions, serving as a valuable tool for strengthening accountability and ensuring the efficient use of public funds.
